Carman Fagnant 1916-2012

Lava Hot Springs, Idaho-Carman Hansen Reavis Fagnant, 95, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at a care center in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born October 13, 1916 in Bear River City, Utah, the daughter of Henry and Andrea Jensen Hansen. She attended elementary school in Bear River and graduated from Box Elder High School. Carman loved working the farm with her father and enjoyed animals of all kinds, but she had a special fondness for horses, which she often trained for a living. She had a beautiful singing voice and was often asked to sing at funerals and such.

In 1936, Carman married Alex Jefferson Reavis in Brigham City, Utah. Soon after, they moved to Texas where they took on a rural mail route, and Jeff traveled the country as a professional rodeo performer and contract act with a trick horse they called Danger. This became their life, and together they raised nine children, until Jeff died in 1961. Carman would later return to her home state of Utah.

Carman met Gene Fagnant in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, and on September 18th of 1970, they were married in Pocatello, making Lava Hot Springs their home. Carman was always an extremely hard worker, and she loved homemaking and the outdoor farm life. For as hard as she worked, she played just as hard. Carman was a marvelous dancer. She had a huge, tender heart, an impish sense of humor, and her laughter was infectious. It was not at all uncommon to meet Carman returning from a sojourn across the cow pasture or along the foothills with a freshly plucked blossom tucked behind her ear and a wildflower bouquet in her hand.

Carman was preceded in death by both her parents, a younger brother, Curtis; an older brother, Mont; a son, Thomas; and three daughters, Sue Ellen Reavis, LaNee (William) Stillwell, and Mary (Reynold) Roche. She is survived by two sons, Cody (Lee) Reavis of Bandera, Texas; Hal Patrick Reavis of Camp Wood, Texas; three daughters, Rea (Joe) Gardner of Uvalde, Texas; Karen Hammond of Camp Wood, Texas; and Christina Campbell of Pocatello, Idaho. She was blessed with twenty-five grand and great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 20, 2012. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at the Lava Hot Springs LDS Church and a reception will follow the graveside service, again at the Lava Hot Springs LDS Church. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
