It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife, the most selfless person to have ever lived, Carol Ann Chatterton, on June 21, 2025, at the age of 77. She passed away very suddenly from cardiac arrest at her childhood home where she lived with her amazing husband of 57 years.
Carol was born in Pocatello, Idaho on November 21, 1947, to LaMar “Bud” and Ardella Long. She was married to Stephen Chatterton on June 7, 1968.
She lived her life with quiet strength, unmatched grace, and unwavering faith. Her kindness was not just something she offered—it was who she was. She loved deeply and fiercely, and she gave of herself completely. To be loved by her was to know unconditional support and love, endless encouragement, and a sanctuary of peace. A beautiful soul inside and out, she was the truest example of Christlike love the world has ever known. She was a mama bear in every sense—protective, loyal, and completely devoted to her children and grandchildren. Every one of us felt her love individually, uniquely, as though we were her favorite—and somehow, we all were. Her love didn’t divide; it multiplied. As a wife, she was a true partner, the best companion one could hope for. Her love was steady and selfless, her devotion a living testament to the vows she cherished. She never sought praise, yet she lived a life worthy of honor. Her selflessness, her compassion, her ability to see the good in everyone—these were the gifts she gave the world every single day. She made everyone around her feel seen, known, cared for and deeply loved.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her husband, Steve, and children, Camille Reese, Kristy (Barry) Lyon, Brandon (Ashley) Chatterton, grandchildren (Justin, Jeff, Ashley, Morgan, Brady, and Dylan) and great grandchildren (Kinsley, River, and Ella Mae). They were her whole world. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Bud and Ardella Long, her brother Steven Long and her daughter Karalee. She was the best wife, mother and grandmother anyone could ever ask for. Our hearts are broken, but our lives are forever blessed for having been loved by her. She taught us how to live, how to love, and how to give without expecting anything in return. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will continue to guide us, comfort us, and inspire us to be better—to love more, forgive quicker, and cherish every moment.
Please join us in celebrating her amazing life on Friday, June 27, 2025, for a viewing from 6-8pm at the Chapel Street LDS Church, 300 East Chapel Rd, Pocatello ID 83201. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 11am with a viewing prior from 10-10:45am at the same LDS building.
We love you, Mom. You were the best of us. You always will be.
