Dennis Call Howell, 80, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.  He was our hero.  Dad was born December 30, 1935 in Basalt, Idaho to DeEsta Irene Call and Jesse Jason Howell.  He was the middle son of three boys.

He attended school in Basalt and Firth, Idaho and graduated from Jackson Wilson High School in Jackson, Wyoming in 1953.  Dad volunteered for the draft during the Korean War and was on active duty in the 82nd airborne Division as a paratrooper.  He served his country faithfully for two years stateside as he was never deployed to Korea.

Dad met the love of his life, our mom, Floretta Johnston in Idaho Falls in August 1956 and they were married six weeks later on September 24, 1956.  This marriage was sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on December 3, 1964.  They have lived in Southeastern Idaho most of their married life.  Dad had many gifts and talents that he used to serve others all of his life.  He was a welder, a welding instructor at Idaho State University, a mechanic, a maintenance supervisor for Simplot and was known as a Jack-of-all-trades and he was master of all.  He spent 25 years as a pipefitter/welder for Local Union 648 before retiring in 1998.

Dad was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as Bishop of the 37th Ward as well as many other callings.  He served in the Michigan, Lansing Mission with his wife and also served a service mission at the church farm.  Dennis and Floretta served in the Idaho Falls Temple for 8 years.

He is survived by his wife, Floretta of 59 1/2 years of Pocatello, His children; Kelly Blair (Vickie) Howell, of Milo; Douglas Jason (Jari) Howell and Jeffery Lee (Rhonda) Howell both of Chubbuck; Denise Marie (Bret) Hansen and Derra DeEsta (Danny) Davis both of Idaho Falls; his brothers Ronald (Beth) Howell of Idaho Falls; Monte (Karen) Howell of Pocatello; 18 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren with one more on the way .  He is proceeded in death by his parents; his sons Dennis Call Howell Jr. and Darin Preston Howell.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the 37th Ward Chapel (Yellowstone Hwy.). The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the church.  Funeral services are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. Interment was in the Firth Cemetery on Friday, April 22, 2016.
