Pocatello- Ethel Marie Hess Young Hathaway of Pocatello passed away February 12, 2013 at the age of 89. Ethel was born July 31, 1923 the daughter of Birdie Victoria and Earl Hess in Blackfoot, Idaho and the oldest of six children.

At an early age, Ethel lived in Blackfoot, Baker Oregon, and then on the family farm in Tyhee. She graduated from Pocatello High School and lived in Pocatello the majority of her life.

Ethel married Jimmy Young in 1946 and together had three children. She is survived by her three loving daughters and their families, Dorene (Gary) Ray, Jeanie (Bruce) Jones, Cheri (Lee) Stone, brothers, Harry Hess and Dale Hess, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Later in life Ethel married Virgil Hathaway and together enjoyed traveling and sunny winters months in Arizona. Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jake, Alfred, Dennis and husband Virgil Hathaway.

Ethel was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who worked very hard to be there for her family. She was an excellent homemaker and accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, loved scenic car rides, music,and the challenge of cross word puzzles. She will always be remembered by her warm and tender smile. Ethel now rests in the arms of her loving mother and father. (Mama and Daddy)

She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all of her children, family and friends.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks and appreciation to the heartfelt care givers that have cared for mother and to the staff at Encompass Home Health and Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel and on Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery, Blackfoot, Idaho. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
