Pocatello - Gary Lee Steed, 77, passed away at his home on September 22,2012.
He was born October 8, 1934 to Arnold and Fern Steed in Pocatello. Gary married Selma Michaelson on August 3, 1956. Together they were the parents of 5 children, Debra Bickley of South Weber Utah, Alvin Steed of Coos Bay, Oregon, Lisa Steed of Coos Bay, Oregon, James Steed of Pocatello, Idaho and Brenda Leasure of West Valley City, Utah. Selma passed away on October 31, 1976.
Gary married the second love of his life Leslee Carlyle on March 31, 1977. This marriage added several more children to the family, Christine Miller of Puyallup, Washington, Jeff Miller of Boise, Idaho, Spencer Miller of Blackfoot, Idaho, and completing the family with Bradley Steed of Pocatello, Idaho.
Gary has spent his lifetime as a part of the community here in Pocatello. He ran a successful cleaning business "Steed's Veri Kleen" here for many years. Along with clothing, carpets and furniture, he was known throughout the Intermountain West for his expertise in cleaning and restoring felt Western Hats. After selling the cleaning business he spent the remainder of his working years at Pocatello Regional Hospital and Intermountain Healthcare as a Facilities Engineer.
Gary had many activities that he loved. In his early years he was as an excellent baseball coach. He coached and sponsored many teams. Gary was an accomplished singer and musician. He participated in many Community Theatre Shows over the years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and sharing these activities with friends and family.
Above all Gary loved his family. He simply enjoyed being our Dad. In his later years his grandchildren and great grandchildren were the pride and delight of his life. He took every opportunity to enjoy time with all of his grandchildren. That time will be forever cherished.
Gary is survived by his wife Leslee, his brothers Kent Steed and Douglas Steed, his daughters', Debra, Christine, Lisa and Brenda, and his sons' Alvin, Jeff, Spencer, James and Bradley. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by his first wife Selma and his parents Arnold and Fern Steed.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday September 27, 2012 at 11:00 am in the 41st LDS Ward Chapel on 1700 Kinghorn Drive Chubbuck, Idaho, with Bishop Marc Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday September 26, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at Manning Wheatley Funeral Home 510 North 12th Ave. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Inkom Cemtery with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
