Glenda Williams Hill

Glenda Lucille Williams Hill passed away on August 2, 2026 in her home at Pocatello, Idaho. Family members surrounded her at her parting.

Glenda was born on September 6, 1926, at the family homestead in Ashton, Idaho, the youngest child of Clyde and Ida Williams, first-generation descendants of immigrant families from Denmark and England. She passed away just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday, a milestone she often expressed as a personal goal.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elden Hill; her siblings, Mabel Stalker, Juanita Cooley, Floyd Williams, and Mildred Featherston; and her son-in-law, Nord Pearson.

As a little girl she loved playing with dolls, riding a bike, tap dancing, playing ball in the streets, going to the movies, drinking root beer and eating ice cream bars which she called “milk nickels”. She was musical and played the piano and had a nice singing voice. Her mother, who passed away when Glenda was 19, was instrumental in encouraging her to attend college. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1948.

Teaching elementary age children was a profession she loved and excelled at, and she taught for many years in Pocatello at Indian Hills Elementary, Wilcox Elementary, and primarily at Syringa Elementary. Her devotion to her profession led her to teach reading skills to Kindergarteners, which was not common at the time. Parents with young children sought her out knowing she would bring out the best in their children.

She knew Elden Hill from her school days in Ashton. After his graduation from college, they were married on September 9, 1951in their hometown of Ashton. A year later they welcomed their first child, and in the subsequent years, four more children followed. Becoming a mother was something that she had wanted her entire life.

With family life, Glenda loved and supported her children in their activities, rarely missing any games or events they were involved in. She was a wonderful cook and spent long hours preparing meals and keeping a warm and welcoming home for family and friends.

Glenda’s faith was a central part of her life. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including serving twice as a Relief Society president. After the passing of her husband, she dedicated many years to additional service through full-time missions. She served a proselytizing mission in Houston, Texas, in 1995; taught English to schoolteachers, television personnel, and members of parliament in Thailand in 2001; assisted individuals with genealogy research in Warsaw, Poland, in 2005; and served for nine years in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Through her kindness, compassion, and willingness to serve, Glenda touched countless lives. Those she helped often returned that love and kindness to her. Her life was a testament to faith, generosity, and goodness, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Glenda is survived by her children: Scott, Mark, Shawna Pearson, Blake (Julie), and Nancy Mann (Howard); 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Indian Hills Ward, 5425 Bannock Highway, Pocatello, Idaho, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Bishop Dewey Cook. A viewing will be held Friday, August 7, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the same location. A short viewing will also be held at 9:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Heritage Home Health and Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they provided. Their outstanding dedication, kindness, and support eased the burden of caring for her during her final years and brought comfort to both her and her family.
