Herbert Wayne Wallace

Herbert Wayne Wallace, 78, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Friday, July 18, 2025. Born on April 13, 1947, to Robert Wayne and Vera Summers Wallace, Herb lived a life filled with love and joy. Most important to him were his faith, his family, and helping others.

Herb grew up in Anaconda, Montana, surrounded by loving family and friends. These relationships were dear to him and so were the memories of Anaconda which included fishing, ice skating in the commons, movies at the Washoe Theatre, pork chop John’s sandwiches, and ice cream at the Dairy Queen.

Herb’s family moved to American Falls, Idaho, when he was a junior in high school. He was active in student government, sports, and played in the band. He also experienced the rigors of moving pipe and working on his grandparents’ farm. At the age of 19 Herb served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Montevideo, Uruguay. He took from his missionary service an ability to love and see the value in every person.

He met the love of his life—Vicki Ricks— a talented, intelligent, and vivacious beauty queen, at the ISU Institute of Religion. When Vicki introduced Herb to her father Victor, Victor nicknamed Herb “Bing” because, “Bingo!” he thought Vicki had hit the jackpot. Honestly, Herb and Vicki had both struck gold. They were married on August 1, 1970, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Vicki was the center of Herb’s life and the one with whom he most enjoyed spending time. They are eternal companions.

Herb loved his country and served in the Army Reserve for six years. After his graduation from Idaho State University he was hired to work at Idaho Bank & Trust. Herb furthered his education by attending banking schools focused on trusts and became a Certified Trust Financial Advisor. He worked for various banks over the years, managing their trust departments. The culmination of his career was creating the trust department for Bank of Idaho. He retired in 2010. He loved his clients and his colleagues.

Herb enjoyed serving in the community and was active in local community organizations including Lions Club, United Way, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts of America, Pocatello Chamber of Commerce, the American Cancer Society, and the Estate Planning Council. He sat on several community boards and committees.

Herb sought to minister like Jesus Christ as he served in various church callings over the years including seminary teacher, president of LDSSA at ISU, Young Men’s President, Bishop/Branch President, Stake Presidency counselor, Area Advisor for Sigma Gamma Chi Fraternity, ministering brother, and as a temple worker. He served a ministering mission to the Pocatello Women’s Correctional Facility. After his retirement from the bank, Herb and Vicki served missions as Area Auditors for the Central America Area and the South America South Area of the Church. They had the opportunity to travel all over Central and South America training Church leaders about financial matters. The legacy of missionary service has extended to Herb’s children and grandchildren who have served missions all over the world following Herb and Vicki’s example. He faithfully lived a consecrated life and sought to keep his covenants in a joyful way throughout his life. He truly lived after the manner of happiness.

Herb’s family and friends meant the world to him and were his greatest joy. He made each person feel loved and special, because to him, they are. He enjoyed participating in all kinds of activities—camping, traveling, going to plays and movies, golfing, watching sporting events, playing cards, and Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other holiday celebrations. He loved singing with family, especially the “Butcher Boy” song. It was just fun to be with Herb.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vicki, his four siblings--Marty (Shirley), Dan (Jolene), Barbara Contreras (Victor), Sharen Myers (Rob), his four children-- Rob (Nicole), Kendra Souza (Benji), Daren (Julie), Brad (Tifani), 16 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

The family is appreciative of the many health care professionals that assisted Herb over the last months of his life.
