Ida Richardson, 71, passed away on January 2, 2024, after a short but brave battle with esophageal cancer.
Ida was born on November 8, 1952, the 5th of 8 children. She grew up wanting to be an actress, after discovering the joy of acting in school plays. She didn't like the travel requirements of an actor's life, so she gave that dream up and found a role she was born for: mothering.
Ida raised three daughters, as well as always lending a hand to child rearing nieces and nephews and opening her home when family members fell on hard times. Ida's daughters grew up with countless cousins and remember that time fondly.
In 1991, Ida married the love of her life, Joe "Al" Richardson, in a small ceremony in San Diego, CA. Together, Ida and Al enjoyed researching and discussing history. Ida was especially interested in the American Civil War, and could spend hours talking about it to anyone willing to listen.
When Ida had free time, she enjoyed camping, being outdoors in nature, and watching good horror and sci-fi films and TV shows. She was also an avid reader, who bestowed her love of books to all three of her children. She was introduced to her latest love, Pokémon, by her grandson, Thomas. She actively played each Pokémon game as it came out, eager to "catch them all." Her favorite Pokémon was Lucario.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Hattie "Merle;" her siblings, Percy, Marvin "Pete", Damie, and Steven; and her husband, Joe "Al".
Ida is survived by her three daughters, Peggy, Julie, and Kristina; her son-in-law, Will; her grandchildren, Gabby and Thomas; her brother, David, and sisters. Eunice and Anna; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial has not been scheduled at this time.
