Jack Smith Thompson, aged 87 years old, passed away suddenly on October 25, 2017 at an assisted living facility in Pocatello.
He was born in Sugar City, Idaho, August 3, 1930 to John Edmund and Luella Smith Thompson. His early years were spent in the Osgood area until the family moved to Blackfoot, where he graduated from the Blackfoot High School in 1948.
Here he met Marilyn Lindsay. They were married August 10, 1949 In the Idaho Falls Temple. To that union were born six children, John Lynn, Kerry J., Dale Lee, Todd Lindsay and identical twins, Marlinda and Marsha.
Jack’s schooling included in addition to his high school diploma, a bachelor’s degree from Ricks College, an associate degree from I.S.U, a master’s degree from B.Y.U. and his doctor’s degree from Utah State University.
During his career Jack held several positions in the Sugar Salem schools, the Moreland-Riverside schools, and at the time of his retirement was the assistant superintendant of the Pocatello School District.
He was truly a Jack of all trades. Jack worked at many different jobs while supporting his family. He could repair or create about anything desired. He did much work fixing up his homes and those of his children. During the course of his life he worked on the farm, greased cars, hauled garbage, did janitor work, waxed cheese, did general repairs, and many other jobs.
His church activity included Scoutmaster, assistant Sunday School superintendant, teacher in the auxiliaries, elder’s quorum president, high priest group leader, high priest secretary, physical facilities director, assistant stake clerk and stake executive secretary, and three missions with his wife.  He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers Gene and James Thompson and sister Charlotte Jones.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 30 at 11:00 am in the Butte chapel at the corner of Butte and Hiskey streets in Pocatello.  Viewings will be held on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Monday one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in the Moreland Cemetery.
He was beloved by many and will be greatly missed.
