Pocatello - James Douglas Ames, 83, longtime resident of Pocatello, passed away Sunday evening April 29, 2012 at his home. He was born May 30,1928 in Kemmerer, Wyoming, a son of Gilbert and Jeanette Bloom Ames. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. There he enjoyed his childhood with two other brothers, Bob and Bill.

Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and received an honorable discharged in 1947. During a furlough, he met the love of his life Betty Jean Ball. They married in 1948 in Kemmerer, Wyoming and had four children, Sharon, Susan, Gary and Jon and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty passed away Jan. 6, 1991 after a long battle with cancer. In 1993 Jim met and married Jean Sibert and added two more sons to the family, Scott and Ron.

Despite all that he accomplished in life, the things that meant the most to him was God and his family. He was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. One position being Bishop of the Pocatello First Ward. He loved fishing, bowling, dancing and was an avid reader.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Betty, his brother Bill and numerous others.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Gardens with Bishop Marc L. Johnson, of the Pocatello Forty First Ward officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. There will be a family viewing starting at 12 noon at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel prior to going to the cemetery.

Jim's family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Alliance Home Health and Hospice for their care of our husband and father for the past 9 months, "We Love You" Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
