Inkom- James J. Hagler, 87, of Inkom, Idaho passed away Monday March 26, 2012 at a local care center. He was born June 15, 1924 in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of Charles H. and Eliza Whitworth Hagler.
He married Leita May Lloyd on July 12, 1943 in Inkom, Idaho. They have two daughters, Dianna Sterner and Lana Dahlke.
He worked at the Portland Cement Company from April 15, 1943 thru June 1, 1986. He served in the United Sates Navy in WW II in both the European and Pacific fronts.He was aboard the USS Kasaan Bay and USS Henderson.
He was on the ski patrol for Skyline Ski Area and on the National Ski Patrol for 25 years, covering the northwest ski area. He taught first aid for the Red Cross and at Idaho State University. He was one of the first EMT'S and fireman for the Inkom Fire Department. He enjoyed building houses and anything with wood.
He greatly enjoyed spending time with the grandkids when they were on family camping trips. He loved archery, skiing, snowmobiling,hunting, fishing, camping and water skiing. He was a member of the Lions Club. He helped build the pavilion at Inkom Park.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed working in scouting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Leita Hagler, Inkom, Idaho; two daughters, Dianna Sterner, Inkom, Idaho; Lana Dahlke, Inkom, Idaho; five grandchildren, James (Lori) Sterner, Greg (Danielle) Sterner, Tyler (Darci) Dahlke, Tucker (Richelle) Dahlke, Tessa (Rance) Howell; 11 great grandchildren, Colby Sterner, Justin Sterner, Sara Sterner, Jace Sterner, Jaxson Dahlke, Seau Carlson, Kallie Dahlke, Mylie Dahlke, Bodie Dahlke, Jaylee Howell, Marlee May Howell; two sisters, Mary Capell, Chubbuck, Idaho; Agnes (Jerry) Jones, Pocatello, Idaho; a brother, Kenneth (Doris) Shaffer, Inkom, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Joyce Hagler, Oregon City, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles Hagler, Harold Shaffer, John Fredrick Shaffer; a son-in-law, Robert L. Sterner; a brother-in-law, Leon Capell.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Inkom Ward Chapel (973 Rapid Creek Rd.) with Bishop John C. McNabb officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Inkom Ward Chapel and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church prior to services.
Interment will be in the Inkom Cemetery with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
