Janet Rose Robles

Janet started her life right here in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born September 6 th , 1958 to Frank and Dorothy Stratten. She grew up in Aberdeen and Pocatello. She loved Pocatello and never had a yearning to leave.

In 1975, she met a man who was panicked. His toddler son had wandered off and he was searching down 3 rd street trying to find the lost boy. Janet didn’t know the man, but she helped search for the boy.  She was so selfless and caring to everyone. Janet would later point the man out to her best friend stating, “He is so cute.” Her friend surprised Janet by placing a large bow around his neck and gave him to her as an 18 th birthday gift. That man’s name is George Robles. She not only gained the love of her
life, but she also gained a life-long son, Damian Robles. Damian was a rambunctious child and full of life, he didn’t always make it easy… but mom wouldn’t have it any other way.

Then in 1977, she gave birth to a baby boy, Christopher Stratten. When the nurse brought in the baby, Janet said, “that’s not my baby! You bring back my ugly baby!” They had almost switched babies and gave her the wrong one, but she knew Chris was her baby.

George and Janet were married December 17th, 1983. They left for their honeymoon to Jackpot during a blizzard. While leaving the wedding venue, the door on the Volkswagen van broke. Dad didn’t want to be embarrassed and told her “Hold that door shut”. She would laugh as she told the story stating, “I froze my hands off!” They would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year, in 2 weeks.

In 1985, a little girl was born. She was supposed to be named Jeanette after her mother, but Janet took one look at the beautiful, full head of dark hair, brown eyes and dark skin and she knew, this is Esther.  This little girl and her mother would grow up to become the best of friends. Janet’s last wishes were, “please don’t be sad when I am gone. Share my stories, laugh with me, and
know that I have lived a wonderful and happy life.”
