With tender hearts, we remember and honor the remarkable life of John Carlyle Hoggan, lovingly known as “Johnny,” who departed this world on June 21, 2026, in Pocatello, Idaho, at the age of 79. Born on May 29, 1947, in Monterey, California, John’s journey was marked from the beginning by a warmth and charisma that would touch everyone fortunate enough to walk alongside him.
John’s story begins with family: the beloved son of Carlyle Hoggan and Madeline Barnacle, whose kind spirits surely helped shape his own compassionate nature. Though they have gone before him, their legacy lived on in John’s gentle strength and unwavering love.
Passing through the years, John’s path led him to sow roots in Idaho, where his days were filled with hard work and camaraderie in every job he held. A familiar face at Norwest Ice in American Falls, at Pillsbury Fertilizer, and while maintaining hotels, John not only contributed with steadfast hands but also, more importantly, with a generous heart. He was known among his colleagues and friends for his willingness to lend a hand or share a smile, never too busy for a kind word.
But it was not only his work ethic that defined him—it was also his devotion to the things that made his heart race. Johnny’s passion for cars was legendary; he was renowned for having the fastest car around and always ready to prove it on the road or racetrack. His eyes lit up when he was behind the wheel or bringing a machine back to life, and that boyish grin when he spoke of his latest road race or dirt bike victory could light up any room. The love for speed ran through his veins, connecting him with friends and enthusiasts alike, leaving a legacy that roared as loudly as any engine he ever built.
To those who had the privilege of knowing him, Johnny was the embodiment of loving kindness and conviction. He approached life with a gentle spirit and strong will. His acts of kindness, the quiet support he offered, and his ability to stand firmly by those he loved became the hallmark of his character. Whether cheering on friends, caring for family, or simply offering companionship, John’s warmth was a constant source of comfort.
He is survived by his son, Cody Hoggan, whose life have been enriched by his love and who continue to reflect his goodness in all he does. While the loss of his presence leaves an immeasurable void, his memory shines brightly in every story recounted, every shared laugh about a race won, and every kind gesture repeated in his honor.
John joins in peace his parents, Carlyle Hoggan and Madeline Barnacle, whose love greeted him once more.
Family, friends, and all those touched by Johnny’s life are invited to gather for a Graveside Service at Falls View Cemetery, 2938 McKinley Road, American Falls, ID 83211, on June 27, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m., to remember, celebrate, and honor the life of a man whose generosity, resilience, and adventurous spirit leave an indelible mark on every heart he encountered.
Though John Carlyle Hoggan now races ahead on roads unseen, his legacy of kindness, strength, and exuberant passion will forever travel with us.
