Josephine L. Carlson

Josephine Carlson, 93, Born January 30, 1925, died December 31, 2018

Josie passed away following a stroke in early December, she recently moved to Pocatello to live with her son and daughter in law.  She moved here from Fresno California which was her home since 2000.  Previously she lived in Kansas till the passing of her third husband Gene Carlson, they were married for 15 years.  Gene and Josie farmed in Kansas and wintered in Arizona. Josie was married to Fred Stevenson for 12 Years until his passing in 1983.  They dated for some 6 years prior to their marriage. Fred and Josie love to dance, and travel, they backpacked in Central America and made homes in California, Nevada and Arizona. Jose joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in those years, baptized by her son George Jr.  Her first husband was George Loyd, they were married for 24 years, had 3 sons Melvin, George Jr. and Donald.  George and Josie raised their family in Sonoma and Fresno California. Mother lived many years single in her mid life and senior years.  Growing up in the depression and dealing with WWII rationing she learned how to keep house, and cook and make wholesome meals with little resources.

Josie, born Josephine Louisa Giorgi, was raised on a small dairy in Sonoma, California. She had three brothers, Melvin and Ray, older, and Jerry younger.  Those were tough times and Josie learned farm skills, she loved animals and learned to keep the farm records for her Swiss immigrant parents.  The Swiss dialect was spoken in her home and English learned early on in shopping with her parents. In her youth Josephine worked in neighboring farms and in the hotel in their small town.

Josephine is survived by her brother Jerry Giorgi, her sons George Jr. and Donald Loyd, and by 7 grandchildren (George Loyd III of Idaho Falls, Don Loyd of Fresno, Jason Loyd of Fresno, Amy Loyd of Seattle, Anne Ramsey of Pocatello, Ondrea Loyd of Fresno, and Fred Loyd of Fresno.)
