Judy Kay McMasters

Judy Kay McMasters, 83, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026 in Chubbuck, Idaho. She was born April 2, 1942, in Susanville, California to Thomas and Lois Cunningham.

When Judy was one year old her family moved from California to Malad, Idaho to help with her grandfather Arnold Gill’s farm. Soon after her family moved to Pocatello, Idaho. Judy graduated from Pocatello High School in 1960. Judy met Frank McMasters that spring just after he had returned home from his service in the U.S. Navy. They were married July 22, 1960 in Pocatello, Idaho. They proceeded to have three children, Carrie (Feb. 1961), Teri (May 1963) and Devin (Nov. 1970). They later sealed their marriage in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on May 21, 1976.

Judy spent most of her career working for the Pocatello-Chubbuck school district. Early on she worked at the district central kitchen. Later she transitioned into her role at Tendoy Elementary School as a Teacher’s Aid for the Resource Room. Judy retired from the school district in June of 2002.

In 1980 Judy and her husband Frank began a near decade long journey of building their dream cabin in the woods of Island Park, Idaho. Summer after summer, peeled log after log, the dream was gradually crafted into reality. Once completed, the cabin served host to countless gatherings for friends and family alike.

Judy will always be remembered as a loving wife, a caring mother, and supportive friend.

Judy is survived by children, Carrie Sanders, Utah, Devin (Becca) McMasters, California; sister Sally (Dana) Spahr, Pocatello; brother Thomas (Teresa) Cunningham, Pocatello; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. 

Judy was preceded in death by her husband Frank McMasters, daughter Teri McMasters, her parents Thomas and Lois Cunningham and a sister Gail Freckleton.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the LDS Church, 4600 Victory Ave., Chubbuck, Idaho. The family will receive friends at a viewing beginning at 10:00am, with chapel services beginning at 11:00am. Interment will follow services at the Mountain View Cemetery. Lunch will directly follow interment services returning to the LDS Church on Victory Ave.
