Laurel Burger

August 10, 1939 — February 24, 2020

Laurel Burger

Laurel Bailey Burger passed away on Feb. 24, 2020 in St George, UT.  She was born Aug. 10, 1939, in Sanford CO, to Stanley Bailey and Irma Tobler.   She grew up in Sanford CO, the 5th of 7 children. While her mom taught school, she lived with her special Aunt Edna and Uncle Will Dantice in Center. Her Aunt Clea Espinosa was her 1st grade teacher.

She ran away from home to marry her sweetheart, Eddie Burger on July 1, 1956 in Taos NM, when she was only 16 and they were happily married for 56 years. She later graduated from High School in Alamosa, CO.  They soon moved to Alamogordo, NM where Rick and Terry were born, then Brenda was born in Ruidoso.   During this time Eddie joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  They were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple in 1969. Later they adopted their youngest son Corey who was 3 years old and now their family was complete.

Her love for kids started with a daycare business babysitting in her home for many years.  She was a mom to several kids and many foster children.  She made a difference and provided a shelter for many at-risk children.   She served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in many compacities and loved each of her callings. She loved traveling and seeing new places with her family.  She loved visits from her family, neighbors, friends, kids and grandkids.

She moved to St. George, UT in 2013 where she met many special neighbors and friends. She created a family here with each of them, playing cards, going to the movies, swimming and many lunches. She was a great neighbor and friend and loved them all dearly.

One of mom’s best attributes was that she never missed a birthday and never missed a time to say thank you with a little gift or card to show people how much she appreciated the little things that meant so much to her.

She survived by her children. Richard (Candy) Burger, Terry (Kurt) Allen, Brenda (Eddy) McGinnis, and Corey (Ann) Burger.  Her grandchildren Melissa (Chris) Clark, Mysta Lynne and Aidan.  Carissa Burger, Jared (Crystal) Burger, Eric, Wesley, and William. Jason (Jamie) Burger, Elizabeth, Brienna, and Danton.  Michael (Stephanie) Allen, Everly & Harper, Stephanie (Tyler) Wheatley, Braxton, Madison, Kamree, & Kallen.  Julie (Gerrick) Dastrup, Kody (Shelby) Allen.   Mikkel Jepperson, Liam & Lincoln, Sheena McGinnis, Whitney Shae (Doug) Burgess, Kayla McGinnis & Lexi.  Taylor (Sienna) & Beck, and Brandon Burger.

She is also survived by her sisters Darla (Larry) Judd, Caron (Frank) Weigel, and brothers, Larry (Joan) Bailey and Steve (Debbie) Bailey.

Her husband Eddie preceded her in death, her sister Anita Bailey, her brother Buddy Bailey, her mother and father, and sister-in-law Dorothy (Don) Anderson.
