Leone Egbert Hunt

Pocatello - Leone Egbert Hunt, 91, passed away August 11, 2011 at Alta Ridge Care Facility surrounded by her loving family in Sandy Utah.

Leone was born on October 3, 1919 to Hyrum and Lydia Egbert in the small farming community of Turner, Idaho. When she was four months old, her family moved to Pocatello where she grew up. She was the fourth child of six girls and is preceded in death by her sisters; Erma Sappington, Afton Anderson, Eva Eldridge, and Eunice Hedding. She is survived by her youngest sister Marjorie Reed.

Leone attended the University of Idaho Southern Branch for two years and graduated in Elementary Education . Every Friday night, she would go to the Third Ward dances that cost only a dime to dance the night away with a live orchestra. There, she met Gene Hunt, and after dating him for some time she married him at the age of 22 on June 9, 1941 by an LDS Bishop in St. George, Utah. Leone first taught in Lego and the Inkom the next year. She continued teaching in the public schools until she started a private kindergarten in her own home. There she taught three generations of children, ages two to five, and retired at age 72.

She was an outstanding and beloved teacher by many who often stopped her to express their appreciation for her influence in their lives. Along with teaching and blessing the lives of many children, she raised four of her own children -Ted, Jerry, Barrie, and Sonya. She instilled not only the values of hard work, thrift, and selflessness, but a desire to help others during hard times. Although she experienced difficult times herself, she remained optimistic and hopeful that all would work out. She loved spending time with her 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. We would be honored to have you join our family in remembering our sweet mother.

Funeral services will be held Monday August 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pocatello Central Stake Center (225 Oakwood Drive) with Bishop Gary Davis of the Third Ward officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Pocatello, Idaho. Funeral services are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
