Lewis Malden Johnson

It is with much sadness that we must say “goodbye” for now to our kind, gentle, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
Lewis Malden Johnson passed away peacefully on July 16, 2017 at the home of his daughters in Bountiful, Utah at the age of 95 of causes incident to age. He was born on September 27, 1921 in Firth, Idaho to William Ezra and Ada Adelaide Dye Johnson the sixth of nine children—five brothers and three sisters.
He grew up in the Firth area on his family’s small farm and he learned to work hard. This trait would stay with him throughout his lifetime. He was drafted into the US Navy in February 1943 and subsequently served during World War II with a navy gun crew on a merchant ship. He, as well as his family, are proud of this service to his country.
He married Vivian Elizabeth Robertson on March 19, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Together they raised five children and have five wonderful grandchildren and seven beautiful great-granddaughters.
Dad worked as a Conductor/Brakemen for the Union Pacific Railroad and retired in 1986. He and mom have enjoyed a wonderful and long retirement. They were able to travel, spend time with their family, and thoroughly enjoy life. He enjoyed camping, going to ball games, doing family history, and attending band, symphony and tabernacle choir concerts.
Dad and mom also served missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in both San Jose, California and the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Daddy was a good man and a wonderful father.
He is survived by his son, Craig Johnson and daughters Cheryl Casebolt (Russ), Renita Johnson and Judy Johnson; grandson, Ryan Casebolt and granddaughters, Amy Nash ( Paul), Jennie Horne (Ryan) and Jessica Casebolt. He is also survived by a brother, Val Johnson (Edna) and a sister, Julia Henderson.
Lewis was pre-deceased by his daughter, Becky and a grandson, Seth; as well as his brothers, Wayne, Morris, Boyd and Garth and sisters, Louise and Marian. We will miss him greatly and look forward to the time when we will meet him again.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Highland 3rd Ward Chapel - 2300 Butte Street, Pocatello. There will be a viewing for family and friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel – 510 North 12th Avenue and again at the Butte Street building from 10:00 – 10:45 am prior to the funeral services.
