Melvin Ray Stewart

Melvin (Mel) Ray Stewart peacefully passed away on November 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Mel was born on August 29, 1938, in Pocatello, Idaho to Raymond and Rose Stewart. He met his true love Velma Fuger at the young age of 14. They were married on June 07, 1956, and had four daughters.

Mel served his community as a Pocatello Firefighter and retired in 1993. In Mel’s younger years, he enjoyed softball and bowling. He also loved hunting, boating, camping, and traveling with his lifelong partner. His true passions were playing a round of golf,
catching a fish and drinking a cold beer.  Mel was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.

Mel is preceded in death by his father, mother and brothers Ed and Franklin.  He is survived by his wife Velma, sister Emma Jean, daughters – Doris Nestor (Ray), Joy Holm (Tom), Melanie Mari (Mark), Raejean Cates (Guy), grandkids- Jeremey (Jami), Shaughn (Tasha), Dustin (Shenell), Shawn (Veronica), Nick, Danielle, Andrew (Annie), Karli (Brenden), Dayton, 12 great grandkids and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Manning Wheatley Funeral Home located at 510 North 12th in Pocatello. His viewing will be held at 12:00 PM for family and friends. Graveside services to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
