Ronald Lyle Cook

Ronald Lyle Cook age 71 of Pocatello, Idaho passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2023 and into the loving arms of his savior Jesus after a short battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Ron was born on August 13, 1951 to Ivan Earl Cook and Lyle Cook in Afton, Wyoming. Ron’s family moved to Campbell, California shortly after that.  Ron graduated from Westmont High School in Campbell, California in 1969. He graduated in 1971 from San Jose City College and then started his life long career as an auto mechanic.

In 1967 he met Susan Gail Christman at Alan Anderson’s 16th birthday party in Campbell, Ca. They were married on September 13, 1969, 3 months after Ron graduated from high school and 1 month after Ron turned 18. They wanted to wait 5 years before starting their family, but SURPRISE, their oldest daughter was born 9 months later in June 1970. They went on to have 2 more daughters in 1971 and 1974. Ron built his family home in Campbell, California before moving his family to Nevada City, Ca., and then back to the bay area in 1979, and then to Pocatello, Idaho in 1989.

Ron retired in 2014, but shortly after he got a bit restless, so he went back to work as a school bus driver for the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25, where he quickly became extremely popular and very loved by the students who called him Santa Claus due to his fluffy white beard. He retired in 2020.

Throughout his life Ron enjoyed hunting, guns, camping and just about anything outdoors. Ron had a great sense of humor and made everyone around him laugh. Ron will be missed by everyone who knew him. Ron was the patriarch to a very large family. Ron would help anyone and everyone if he was able. Ron accepted Jesus as his savior in 1989. He attended Pioneer Bible Baptist Church, Pocatello Baptist Church and Calvary Chapel.

Ron is survived by his wife of 53 years Susan Cook of Pocatello, Id. Daughters: Gina Marie (Richard) Miller of Pocatello, Id. Keri Leigh (Jason) Dawdy of Cedar Park, Tx. and Dawn Renee Cook and her fiancé Michael Wiley of Chubbuck, Id.
