Virginia May Brown Allen

McCammon- Virginia May Brown Allen, age 85, and long-time McCammon resident, passed away April 8, 2012 at Quinn Meadows Care Center, following a stroke. She was surrounded by her family who love her and will greatly miss her.

Virginia was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on July 8, 1926, the daughter of George Martin Brown and Ella May Weidow Brown. She was educated in schools in Scranton and graduated from High School in Laureldale, Pennsylvania. She worked during World War II as a book keeper and a volunteer Red Cross "gray lady".

Virginia came to McCammon in 1949 as the new bride of (Carl) Ned Allen, a recently returned World War II Army Veteran. Together they purchased land until they were able to have a self-sustaining cattle ranch where they worked side by side to earn a living. Ned passed away in 1981 and Virginia continued to live in her home and manage the ranch until 2 weeks ago.

Virginia was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding many callings and fulfilling many responsibilities over the years. She was an avid genealogist and researched many family names and their histories. She also volunteered many years assisting patrons at the Family History Center in McCammon. She kept a journal all of her life. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, knitting, tatting, music, cooking, candy making, and painting. Many family members and friends were recipients of her creations.

She is survived by 3 children; Eloise Scott, Pocatello; Alvin (Deborah) Allen, McCammon; Marcella (Jerry) Borrowman, Sandy, Utah; two brothers, Melvin (Bette) Brown,Shoemakersville, Pennsylvania; Charles (Barbara) Brown, Jacksonville, North Carolina; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The love of her life were her ten surviving grandchildren and spouses, Wes & Mindy, Travis & Lindsay, Scott, Jeff & Eden, Steven, Kelissa & Russell, Amy & Casey, Justin & Abbey, Heidi, Jodi & Jason and her eight great-grandchildren, Rowdy, Emily, Maya, Katie, Trevor, Aaron, Jesse, Samuel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Allen; her son, Ned Winn Allen; her parents; 4 brothers, Myrl, Leonard, Thomas, George; her in laws, Winfred & Sarah Ann Allen; and many extended family members and close friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the McCammon Stake Center with Bishop Ralph Wheatley of the Marsh Creek Ward officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the McCammon Stake Center and prior to the services on Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery, McCammon, Idaho.

Her family wishes to extend sincere thanks to her neighbors and close friends who assisted her over the recent years as she face health challenges. Gratefully we express appreciation for her care to her loving nurse, Karen Jones RN, Alliance Home Health (Malad Office), Alliance Hospice staff including Dr. LaVonne Mills, Lisa, Melissa, Tiffini, Marian, and Frances (Pocatello Office) , and the nursing staff at Quinn Meadows,
